Why We Exist

Great martial arts instructors never stop learning.

Across dojos, gyms, and training halls around the world, instructors are constantly refining their craft — not just their technique, but their ability to teach, inspire, and lead. Martial arts instructors don't just want better kicks and sharper kata. They want better communication. Better class structure. Better ways to develop confidence, discipline, and character in their students.

This website was created to support that journey.

There is an incredible amount of wisdom in the martial arts community. Decades of experience. Hard lessons learned. Creative drills tested on the mat. Breakthrough teaching moments. But too often, that knowledge stays within individual schools.

This site is a collection point.

It gathers teaching resources created by instructors, for instructors — articles, ideas, quotes, training concepts, and videos — all designed to help teachers grow in their craft and develop their students. It is not about promoting one style over another. It is about elevating instruction across all styles by sharing what works.

When instructors share, everyone improves.

When everyone improves, students benefit.

And when students benefit, the art itself becomes stronger.

This platform exists to make good instructors better — and great instructors even greater.

My Story

Chad Spaulding, martial arts instructor and founder of The Instructor's Dojo
Chad Spaulding

I have been training in martial arts since 1995, with experience in karate, kung fu, and judo. In 2017, I earned my Sho-dan (first-degree black belt) in Chito-Ryū Karate-Do, marking a significant milestone in a lifelong commitment to the discipline.

Karate is not simply an activity I practice — it is a perspective that shapes how I approach life. Over three decades of training, I have come to understand that karate extends far beyond punches and kicks. It is a framework for developing discipline, integrity, resilience, and character. The lessons learned in the dojo have provided insights and personal growth that reach well beyond any traditional classroom setting.
